Humane Society of Broward County is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate full time Shelter Veterinarian to join our team. The Shelter Veterinarian performs a variety of duties, including routine and special surgeries, medical care of shelter animals, heartworm treatments, and participating in our vaccine clinic. This role would be an excellent opportunity for someone looking to expand their surgical skills and shelter medicine experience. New graduates are welcome!
We also have a part-time position and per diem opportunities.
We are a 33,000 square foot non-profit open admissions shelter that provides homes to over 5,000 animals annually. HSBC is identified on the national level as a “Leader in Animal Welfare”.
Humane Society of Broward County is also looking for relief help in our shelter clinic and low-cost vaccine clinic. The shelter clinic is not open to general public and mainly treats shelter animals with some exceptions for community cases. Duties include performing surgical procedures, physical exams and medical treatments. The vaccine clinic is open from 9am until 5.30pm to general public and closes daily for an hour lunch. Duties include physical exams, administering vaccines and microchips and helping staff with blood draws and fecal exams. There is a small amount of bending and lifting also.

Work life balance - 4 days per week, 10 hours shifts. No overnight work.
Job Summary: Performs surgeries and heartworm treatments. Helps maintain and manage vaccine clinic procedures and protocols. Provide high quality care to shelter animals, including treatment of various medical conditions.
Job Type: This is a full-time, salaried onsite position.
Responsibilities:
Consults with patrons and veterinarians regarding animals at/or from HSBC as needed.
Performs surgical procedures or vaccine clinic duties as scheduled at HSBC
Examines outpatients as needed in accordance with HSBC policy.
Performs necropsy services as needed.
Assists Clinic staff with any questions or concerns pertaining to the checking process.
Performs treatments and follow-up of Heartworm positive dogs.
Assists with the Foster and Public Foster Programs.
Examines fosters and Adoption Ambassador Program animals as needed.
Performs upkeep and organization of surgery paperwork, updating medical records, supplies and drugs.
Interacts as needed with local vets regarding adopted pets.
Work with the Admissions Department on Surrender Prevention cases.
Facilitates and coordinates specialty surgeries when needed.

Required Qualifications:
Doctorate in veterinary medicine required from an accredited Veterinary School.
Licensed in the state of Florida.
Work experience in developing, managing, and motivating a team.
Demonstrated expertise in shelter operations, disease control and animal behavior.
