Mahopac Animal Hospital is a privately-owned companion animal practice located in the lower Hudson Valley region of New York. In order to deliver excellence, we must have an excellent team. I believe in order to provide the best care to our patients, we need to hire doctors, technicians and support staff with not only the right professional skills, but the right attitude. Our practice philosophy is to offer the best medical and surgical care, while tailoring it to the individual patient and their family. Our practice culture is built upon high quality medicine, excellent client service, a healthy and fun work environment, and above all putting the care and well-being of our patients and their “people” first. We are fortunate to have chosen such a rewarding and enjoyable profession, and feel that in order to get the most out of practicing veterinary medicine, we must work alongside like-minded professionals who believe in maintaining a positive, happy attitude. We are fully paperless with computer workstations in every exam room and multiple other locations, so that you have access to medical records no matter where you are in the hospital. We use Digital Imaging attachments to o...ur medical records frequently which has added great value to our medical records. We have multiple wireless cameras that can be used to monitor patients. Our doctors now have the option of using verbal dictation for medical records. We have found it very helpful in expediting thorough medical record keeping and client communication. Our support staff is well trained and plentiful, including 3 full time licensed (and a fourth license eligable) technicians who will perform all technical procedures, and at least one assistant per doctor and technician. This allows you to be a Doctor! You will always have an assistant by your side. Hand your assistant or technician a patient and a treatment plan, and feel confident that they will be treated with excellence. You will not need to get bogged down with technical work or a difficult nail trim between patient visits. Our doctors do not need to:Take radiographs, place catheters, perform venipuncture, skin scrapes, cystocentesis, trim nails, clean ears, or perform any other procedure that a licensed technician is fully trained to do. Express anal glands to your hearts content, but feel free to send that beagle with the anal glands the size of plums to the back and have our lovely techs do the honor. (Unless of course you choose to do so. In that case feel free to squeeze away at all the anal glands you like!)Diagnositcs:We offer full in-house lab and digital imaging capabilities. We have twice daily reference lab courier pick up. Our new Cuattro digital radiography gives beautiful images, and our brand new high quality ultrasound unit is an integral part of our daily diagnostics. We use telemedicine for ecg’s and radiography consultation. We offer Cardiology consultation as needed by appointment for echocardiography and Holter monitor.Dentistry:Dental COHAT is an integral part of our practice. Our new dental unit includes dual high-speed fiber optic lighted drills and our technicians have years of experience using our (state of the art) digital dental radiology unit. This allows us to perform advanced extraction techniques such as fourth premolar extractions, and feline extractions and root tip location and removal with confidence and precision. Our technicians are excellent at providing safe anesthesia and performing accurate dental charting as they perform dental prophylaxis. We are proficient at difficult dental procedures.Surgery:We commonly perform an average of 3 surgical procedures daily. We offer extracapsular ACL repair or referral for more advanced orthopedic procedures. To give you an idea of the range of surgical procedures we commonly perform, this year we have performed several splenectomies, perineal urethrostomy, MPL corrective surgery including tibial tuberosity transposition, corrective prolapsed glans nictitans, soft palate resection, many advanced mass removals, cystotomies, GI foreign body removal, and many others. We will refer cases to specialty care as needed and preferred by our clients.Internal Medicine:We commonly hospitalize and treat medical cases ranging from acute pancreatitis to renal failure. Pain management is a special focus, and we commonly use CRI pain control during and after surgery, fentanyl patches, and local anesthesia techniques. We stock several anti-inflammatory and narcotic pain medications. We have a Cutting Edge MLS class 4 laser therapy unit.We offer accupuncture acupuncturist (Dr Moore). We have a video otoscope, endoscopy, a new IOP tonometer, a diamond burr keratotomy unit, a cryosurgical device, cautery, automated and manual blood pressure monitors, multiple anesthetic machines using sevoflurane, and state of the art anesthetic monitoring devices including ETCO2. Hopefully this gives you an idea of what we do and how we do it, but a true sense for what our day to day practice experience and culture is like would be best appreciated by coming and spending some time with us. We are looking for a doctor who is interested in settling down and building a long-term relationship with a great team of professionals working in a wonderful medium sized family dominated community. We are fortunate to live in a beautiful area of southeastern New York where we are close to the cultural centers of New York City and the surrounding region as well as far enough into the suburbs to have the ability to enjoy the scenic beauty and extensive opportunities for outdoor activities that the lower Hudson Valley has to offer. Please Email C.V. to me, Dr Victor Scaperotti, Mahopac Animal Hospital.
