Full time job opening for a small animal veterinarian with future buy-in potential
We are an 8 doctor AAHA accredited mixed animal practice in southern Vermont looking for a small animal practitioner who values work/life balance, patient care, client education, and building lasting relationships. If you're interested in coming to a place where you can settle down, put down roots and grow, then this is the place for you! Our practice is tight-knit, and very unique - we are a co-op doctor-owned practice with an amazing full staff, including practice manager. We have weekly meetings with all the owners (and associates!) and the practice manager to address issues before they become problems and keep our finger on the pulse of the clinic. We offer extended hours into the evening to help fulfill our clients’ needs, as well as weekend hours (8am-12pm Sat scheduled, Sat 12-6 and Sunday 8-6 ‘on-call’ urgent only).
We currently offer chiropractic care for both equine and small animals, so certification in this or acupuncture would be beneficial, but not required. We have a GE logicbook ultrasound, as well as a nice CR radiograph system and full digital dental xray. We have in-house IDEXX blood and urine machines, and great staff to process all your labwork for you during daytime hours. We are surrounded by many referral practices, including one only 30 minutes away. We have 4 amazing registered techs, and many very skilled assistants.
This position would be 4 days a week with 2 weekend days ‘on call’ each month. Do not let this 'on call' duty scare you, as it is really minimal, and provides a great opportunity to bring in some extra money while really helping out our clients. 'On call' duty involves meeting current clients at the clinic for urgent things only (torn toe nails, vomiting, etc), and an assistant is available to help you. Emergencies, cases involving hospitalization, or involved workups are referred to 24-hour hospitals. Pay is per diem (scheduled 4, 8-hour days), plus ‘on-call’ weekend days, plus any emergency fees from the urgent cases you see on the weekend. Benefits include 4 days paid vacation (i.e. 1 week), health insurance stipend, AVMA/VVMA dues paid, DEA and state license(s) covered, PLIT liability covered, $1500 for CE + 4 days paid for CE. There is the potential for lodging included, as there is currently an empty apartment associated with the clinic.
Start-date for this position would be as soon as possible. We are seeking an experienced candidate who is interested in potential buy-in for co-ownership (a few years in the future), but would consider the right new graduate, or someone who would like to remain a long-term associate. A strong interest in surgery, including dentistry, is desired. Don't be scared of the potential for ownership, as this is a great way to help pay off student loans, and is really a best-case scenario where the duties of ownership are shared amongst the owners and practice manager to make it as low stress as possible.
We are an AAHA accredited small animal hospital. We believe in educating clients, and in promoting proper preventative care, but also understand that there is a spectrum of care. We are constantly striving to make our practice better, and believe in quality over quantity. We support our doctors in learning new skills, and welcome integrative techniques.
This practice is located in Southern VT, approximately 20 minutes from both the NH and MA borders. This area is great for the outdoor enthusiast, as there are many areas to hike, camp, mountain bike, horseback ride, swim, ski, etc. Brattleboro and Keene offer many great restaurants for the foodie.

Confidence handling small animal GP appointments (basic skin, eye, ear workups, lameness, lumps and bumps, etc), as well as surgical and dental proficiency. Emergency experience is a bonus, but not required.
An interest in avian/exotics/pocket pets is a plus!
