Department: UNH COLSA Agriculture, Nutrition and Food Systems (UBANFS)
The Animal Science Program in the Department of Agriculture, Nutrition, and Food Systems at the University of New Hampshire seeks an outstanding applicant for the position of Lecturer in Animal Science, a full-time (0.88 FTE, academic year – nine month) teaching position. The position will be for a three-year, renewable term, with an expected starting date of the spring term January 2020. Renewal of the position after the initial three-year period may be possible at the discretion of the college. An appointment for a lecturer position includes the full benefits package of the University for non-tenure-track faculty. Lecturers at UNH are represented by the AAUP through a collective bargaining agreement.
We seek a gifted teacher and mentor who will offer undergraduate courses to support our vibrant and growing Animal Science program. The lecturer will be responsible for teaching five units (typically 20 credit hours) per academic year. The initial teaching responsibilities will include animal anatomy and physiology, a 2-semester course sequence required of multiple baccalaureate programs at UNH, as well as developing an experiential course in animal reproductive management. Additional courses taught will be determined based on the successful candidate's expertise and the needs of the department. Other responsibilities will include formal academic advising of students, participating in curriculum development, and service activities at the department, college, and university level.
This position supports undergraduate students in both the 4-year Animal Science (B.S. degree) and 2-year Thompson School of Applied Science (Associates in Applied Animal Science degree) program as well as students in Equine Studies (B.S. degree) and multiple pre-veterinary medicine options within the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture.
The on-campus teaching and research animal facilities available at UNH provide a wealth of opportunities for hands-on, practical experience with agricultural animals, including the Fairchild Dairy Teaching and Research Center, the Teaching Animal High Tunnels, the Lou and Lutza Smith Equine Center, the Burley-Demeritt Organic Dairy Research Farm, and aquaculture facilities.

Minimum Qualifications The successful candidate will have a graduate degree (M.S. required, Ph.D. or D.V.M. preferred) in animal science or closely related field. The successful candidate will be expected to have a commitment to diversity and inclusivity as well as an ability to attract student interest in expanding fields of animal science.
Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching at the college level and in designing and offering experiential and laboratory courses. Expertise in agricultural species breeding management and the production and care of small ruminants is desirable.
