The Chief Medical Officer of Midwest Veterinary Partners (“MVP”) will be the clinical architect, leader and Persona of MVP. This position will own responsibility for developing MVP’s Standard of Care. This position provides strategic direction to Regional Medical Directors and DVM’s within the MVP family to ensure safe, consistent, efficient, therapeutic and ethical patient care. This position provides opportunities to speak publicly at Universities, Trade Shows, and provide Continuing Education. Up to 50% travel will be required in the role. The Chief Medical Officer understands they will wear many hats and will be passionate about clinical excellence, leadership, and advocating for the growth of MVP.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive.
Clinical Architect (33% of Time)
Establish a Medical Advisory Board with that group and collaborate with those individuals to develop and execute Clinical Standards of Care based on Best Demonstrated Practices for MVP’s clinics. The Chief Medical Director will be excellent at creating an environment that leads and inspires our team to provide the best care but doesn't dictate/mandate it.
Establish a Medical Advisory Board with that group and collaborate with those individuals to develop and if necessary, implement conversions to supplies, vendors and capital equipment within MVP clinics.
Review, analyze, and address gaps in clinical excellence, policies, and/or procedures proactively; identify issues and implement solutions
Lead the creation and implementation of DVM development processes and succession planning including mentoring, coaching, training, scholastic development, compassion fatigue abatement and modeling appropriate leadership behaviors.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal and DEA regulations
Lead the business in controlled substance compliance and control.
Clinical Teammate Management (33% of Time)
Position has full supervisory responsibility for recruitment, hiring, retention, performance development, performance management, salary adjustments, incentive plan creation, disciplinary actions, and terminations of direct reports.
Provide leadership to direct reports and strategic leadership to company
Help direct reports overcome any organizational obstacles encountered
Develop and foster a positive, fulfilling work environment
Initiate strategic educational program development to ensure teammates remain up-to-date on Midwest Veterinary Partners policies, new laws and regulations impacting work, and other information necessary to provide knowledgeable, accurate care
Clinical Persona (33% of Time)
Lead the business development process for identifying post close improvement to clinical operations
Plan and conduct internal and external (vendor led) Continuing Education Events for Doctors and Team (Semi-Annually+)
MVP Liaison to recruitment at Veterinary Colleges (regional)
MVP Liaison to recruitment of DVM’s from our competitors
Promote, design and supervise internship, externship and mentorship programs to ensure a positive experience for students
Ensure ample communication of hot topics in the news (i.e. pet food recalls, outbreaks, etc.) and provide educational pieces for team (i.e. Canine Influenza)
Recruit members and organize MVP Medical Advisory Council, Chair panel
Develop positive work relationships with all levels of management and other departments; work collaboratively with field management, legal, finance, and business development
Collaborate with marketing and operational staff to develop clientele management strategies including retention, ACT maximization, reminder system management and client care improvements
(Education, licenses, certifications, and experience required to fulfill the essential duties, include computer skills as required)
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine; Internist preferred; MBA preferred
Minimum of 5 years’ progressive management experience in a multi-veterinary hospital/clinic environment is required. Leadership of 30-60 veterinary hospitals and/or clinics is preferred.
Demonstrated track record of successful fiscal and operating management; demonstrated financial expertise
Demonstrated experience in planning and managing at strategic and operational levels
Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint required
Fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to perform successfully the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position.

Physical requirements can vary. These must be reviewed with management. However, in general, the position requires the following physical activities:
Ability to lift minimum of 2 pounds to a maximum of 20 pounds unassisted; able to sit stand, stoop, walk, stretch, reach frequently; moderate range of body motions.
Ability to hear and interact by phone and in person clearly and efficiently and to make presentations. Ability to use computer and all peripherals efficiently
